Olaniyan Wowed by UCLA Visit

Aramide Olaniyan, the 6-2, 200-pounder from Woodberry Forrest (Virg.) High, the #9-ranked outside linebacker in the country, has been trying to find the school that was the perfect fit, and after his official visit to UCLA it sounds like the Bruins came as about as close as you could get...

Recruiting has taken a few twists and turns for Woodberry Forest High School linebacker Aramide Olaniyan, but the No. 9 outside linebacker in the country just returned home from an official visit to UCLA and it really sounds like the Bruins couldn't have done a better job with Olaniyan and his mother.

"It was a good time out at UCLA," Olaniyan stated. "I really liked the coaches and the players and felt a lot of excitement about the program. My mom really liked it a lot and she's still glowing after the visit, so it's definitely a trip that went well. It's huge that my mom liked the school because once they have my mom they have my dad and that's what Duke had going for them that UCLA now has going for them in my situation."

He goes on: "I love the Rose Bowl and after the win Coach (Rick) Neuheisel had all the guys in the middle of the locker room celebrating after the game which was great to be a part of. The thing that definitely stood out to me the most about the official visit was that Coach Neuheisel took my mother and I around the campus personally to answer all of our questions and show us what UCLA had to offer both academically and athletically. It was a big deal for a head coach to do that for me."

Olaniyan said seeing how the coaches feel he'd fit in was key.

"I also got to spend a lot of time with the coaching staff getting to know them and also finding out how they would use me there," Olaniyan added. "They told me that they really liked me as an outside linebacker, but that their approach was to get their best three linebackers on the field no matter what and I liked everything I heard there. After that I spent some time with some of the players and asked them about both the school and coaching staff and they were very genuine with the good things they had to say."

How would he rate the visit?

"The visit was definitely a 10 out of 10 as there wasn't anything I didn't like about it out there," Olaniyan said. "Now I just have to sit down with my parents, counselor and coach after this official has been taken and see if I should sit the schools next to each other and decide or continue to take official visits."

Analyst's take:

Olaniyan is a kid that I've known for while and have spent a lot of time talking to about schools. This is the first visit he wasn't second guessing many things when he had returned home, even off the record. Also, I think UCLA's academic reputation and the fact that his mother really enjoyed the visit puts them in a great spot here. At this point it looks like the Bruins have put themselves way out in front of other schools and I would imagine they'll land him if he does end up deciding now instead of taking more visits.
