Monday Practice Report; Neuheisel

Rick Neuheisel had just a few short comments Monday after practice. Quarterback Kevin Prince is still not practicing, and many of the younger players are getting more reps to show what they can do...

Quarterback Kevin Prince again did not do any throwing...

Senior middle linebacker Reggie Carter did not practice - he had some school work to finish up...

With Carter out, Steve Sloan was taking reps with the No. 1 defense at the Mike linebacker...

Freshman wide receiver Randall Carroll, who missed the first bowl practice because of the flu, returned...

The team was in full pads, with a few notable exceptions in defensive tackle Jerzy Siewierski and linebacker Kyle Bosworth. Both, however, practiced . Siewierski at the end of practice even returned a kickoff for a touchdown, throwing a mean juke along the way...

Kevin Craft took a shot to his left elbow during team drills, but returned to practice...

Freshman Ricky Marvray made a nice adjustment to the ball in the air and a nice reception, earning some praise from Coach Rick Neuheisel with his play through practice.

A lot of the Bruins' younger players have been taking reps and Neuheisel said they will get a chance to scrimmage toward the end of practice on Tuesday...

The team, as a reward, was being taken to the Clippers game tonight after practice...

Rick Neuheisel had just a few comments.

‘'Another good day. It's always fun to see these kids out here and spirited and having a good time. Again, we're getting a lot of the young kids extra work right now. We'll probably scrimmage after practice tomorrow, towards the end of practice, and have a little fun doing that and keep this thing rolling. The kids are going to go to the Clippers game tonight, so we thank the Clippers for making it possible for us to do that and looking forward to continuing to have a good time in anticipation of a bowl game.''

You mentioned the young guys. What can you glean from these kind of practices?

‘'Well, you just get to see who likes to play. It's obvious as you look out there Josh Smith and Ricky Marvray love to play, and Marlon Pollard and Isaiah Bowens, they love to play. Now, you get that idea over the year, but now they're actually kind of getting to feel that they're getting focused on and all that kind of stuff. It's exciting to watch.''

You talked yesterday about the rust that you saw. Are there certain positions or parts of the game where the rust builds up sooner?

‘'The high level skill stuff, you know, the timing things are the first to go. It just takes a little while to get that all back, and that's why you get more than just a normal weeks practice in anticipation of this, because you've taken a little time off. But the throwing game will start to return here shortly.''
