Big News from Monday's Practice

It was a big day for news at practice Monday, with two players deemed ineligible to play in the bowl game, including a starter on the offensive line, news about whether quarterback Kevin Prince will be able to play, and another breaking news situation with a freshman...

As we reported, starting center Kai Maiava and tight end Morrell Presley are academically ineligle for the bowl game.

Rick Neuheisel said after practice they didn't complete enough credits this quarter to remain eligible.

Quarterback Kevin Prince said after practice he's okay to play.

Reggie Carter missed practice because he had to drive his mother to the hospital for an unspecified reason.

Freshman offensive lineman Stan Hasiak was not at practice, being sent home to Hawaii. A source indicated that it's unlikely he'll return to the program.

With Maiava out, and Ryan Taylor still not recovered from injury, Jake Dean moved into the starting center spot, with Nick Ekbatani at right guard.

Taylor did do some more running at practice today, however.

Sean Sheller returned to the offensive line today. Neuheisel said he's trying him out again at OL but it's not sure where he'll be in spring practice.

Tight end Nate Chandler is still out with a quad injury. Linebacker Sean Westgate sat out with illness.

We'll have Neuheisel's post-practice comments on video later today.
