Kody Innes, OL, Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro, Committed
Chris Ward, OL, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, Committed
Marquis Jackson, DE, Santa Clarita (Calif.) College of the Canyons, Committed
Erick Dargan, DB, Pittsburg (Calif.) High
Ryan Murphy, S/LB, Oakland (Calif.) Tech
Fred Thompson, DT, Oakland (Calif.) Tech
Wade Yandall, OL, Carson (Calif.) High
Jordan Zumwalt, LB, Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison
Yandall, who has been thought to be a UCLA lean, is expected to verbally commit this weekend.
Dargan has emerged as UCLAs prime target at safety, and there's also an expectation that he could verbally commit.
Murphy has yet to be offered a scholarship by UCLA, but it's expected this weekend. He's a recruit that really has come on in his senior season and had his recruitment blow up. Many of the schools recruiting him, including UCLA, haven't even seen him in person yet, so it's a matter of eye-balling him first. Murphy, too, since he's been late to the recruiting game, doesn't know much about the schools recruiting him. So this weekend should be enlightening for both sides.
Thompson has emerged as one of UCLA's DT targets.
Zumwalt is verbally committed to Stanford but it's uncertain if he'll get past Stanford admissions so he's been looking elsewhere. UCLA and USC have taken up that slack, and the Bruins made a huge impression on him in a recent in-home visit with Rick Neuheisel and the entire UCLA coaching staff. The trip this weekend gives UCLA another opportunity to impress Zumwalt and his family. His stock improved considerably with an impressive senior season.
Other than the recruits visiting, there isn't a great amount of new things happening in UCLA's recruiting. Rick Neuheisel recently was on a east coast swing to see recruits.
UCLA seems to be doing fairly well with Sealii Epenesa, the defensive tackle from Honolulu (Haw.) Iolani. It appears his academics should be okay to get him through UCLA admissions.
There is also Ricky Heimuli, the defensive tackle prospect from Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton, that UCLA seems to be doing well with in recruiting. UCLA Offensive Coordinator Norm Chow has been the point man in recruiting Heimuli, and that reportedly has been significant.
Owamagbe Odighizuwa, the defensive end from Portland (Ore.) Douglas, was set to announce at the U.S. Army Bowl this weekend, but now says he'll make his decision public on signing day. It was believed UCLA was going to be the school he named this Saturday, but now, with him putting it off until the last possible day, his choice is uncertain.
