But while he waits for his admission into Stanford, Zumwalt is taking visits.
This weekend, he officially visited UCLA.
"I liked it, it was very nice, it was very awesome," said Zumwalt. "This was my first real chance to visit UCLA. And it was my first official visit so it was a very cool experience."
A familiar face hosted Zumwalt while he was in Westwood.
"Nick Crissman, our old quarterback (at Edison) was my host and it was awesome," said Zumwalt. "We hung out with basically everyone, all the linebackers, especially, hung out."
Zumwalt also got to spend ample time with the UCLA coaches.
"I talked with Coach (Rick) Neuheisel, Coach (Chuck) Bullough and Coach (Rick) Neuheisel. I get along really well with the coaches," said Zumwalt.
And Zumwalt said there were several highlights on his UCLA trip.
"It's an amazing school, with an amazing degree and a sports program that is one of the best in the country," said Zumwalt. "They want me to play in the middle and I'd have a chance to play early there."
Zumwalt submitted his application to Stanford, but is still awaiting word on his acceptance.
"I haven't heard anything yet, so I don't know," said Zumwalt. "But I go to Stanford for my official visit this weekend."
USC is also in the running for Zumwalt, but the talk of Pete Carroll to the NFL has tempered his enthusiasm.
"With USC, I don't know what will happen," said Zumwalt. "It's just wait-and-see mode there."
In the meantime, Zumwalt is keeping his options open.
"I want to be 100% sure before I finalize my decision," said Zumwalt.
Zumwalt has had in-home visits with members of each of the three schools coaches, and anticipates more between now and Signing Day.
