Townsend Plans to Take His Time

Beverly Hills (Calif.) defensive end Greg Townsend (6-4, 240), ranked 7th nationally by in the class of 2011, is taking a deliberate approach to his recruitment.

Already the recipient of eight scholarship offers, Townsend is not going to rush the process, and will take his time in finding the school for him.

Townsend's eight offers come from USC, UCLA, Cal, Arizona State, Miami, Clemson, Oregon and Washington.

"I think next could be Florida or TCU," said Townsend.

Surprisingly, the Horned Frogs have not offered the TCU legacy. His father, Greg Sr., was an NFL All-Pro with the Los Angeles Raiders and was an All-American with TCU.

"They just sent me letters a couple of weeks ago," said Townsend. "I guess they're waiting on my film."

Still, the Frogs are on Townsend's early leader board, which is spread across the country.

"I like Oregon, USC, UCLA, Washington, Miami, TCU and Florida," said Townsend. "Right now, Oregon and USC are at the top. Oregon is probably recruiting me the hardest."

Townsend said he's planning a couple of unofficial visits and camps this spring.

"I'll probably go to USC and UCLA for their Junior Days and maybe Cal's Junior Day, and for spring, I just plan on attending the Nike Camp and the Scout Camp," said Townsend.

Townsend said he doesn't see any decision coming soon.

"I'll decide on Signing Day most likely," said Townsend. "I will be taking all five trips."

Townsend said two things will be what he's primarily looking for in a school.

"The education and the atmosphere," said Townsend.

Academically, Townsend said he's in fine shape.
