Renaud, the top linebacker in Northern Cal, is one of the top players at his position in the West, and several schools are showing interest in him.
The Gophers, out of nowhere, offered Renaud first, and it caught him by surprise.
"The Minnesota offer was pretty random," said Renaud. "They saw my film online and then they offered me. I definitely want to get out there and check them out."
Last month, Renaud attended Cal's Junor Day, and he enjoyed his visit to Berkeley.
"Cal was cool, getting to talk to the coaches, doing the tour of the campus and seeing the facilities," said Renaud. "Coach (Tosh) Lupoi is recruiting me and he's a De La Salle guy."
Renaud is planning to make a couple of visits to Pac-10 schools next month. "During spring break, we're planning to go to Washington and to UCLA, and check those schools out," said Renaud.
Renaud said it was too early to name a top five, and he's not in any hurry in the recruiting process.
"My top schools are wide open," said Renaud. "I want to take some visits. I don't want to decide early. I'm just trying to get myself out there and get some more offers."
Renaud said he's hoping he won't have to make a positional move in college.
"I definitely want to stay at linebacker and to play inside in college," said Renaud.
Academically, Renaud has a 3.0 GPA and will take the SAT in May.
