"New Mexico offered Isaac and UCLA also offered Isaac," said La Mirada head coach Mike Moschetti.
Luatua's connections to UCLA run deep, as he is a cousin of former La Mirada lineman Shannon Tevaga, who started for four years on the Bruins offensive line (2004-2007) as well as former Bruin lineman Sonny Tevaga. And his coach, Moschetti, played at Colorado under Neuheisel in the late 1990's.
The 6-3, 295-pound Luatua was thrilled to get an offer from the Bruins.
"I'm excited about getting an offer from UCLA, it's a great academic school that has done an outstanding job in recruiting the last couple years," said Luatua.
Luatua had visited Westwood unofficially earlier this month and liked the Bruin staff.
"The UCLA coaching staff was awesome when I visited with my teammates," said Luatua.
His family was also excited by the offer.
"It's just an honor," said Luatua. "My family and I are so grateful. I have two goals, getting a degree and winning a national championship."
Luatua helped the Matadores to the CIF-SS title in 2009 and he was named all-CIF.
