Burks Is Eager For Spring

Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison defensive end/linebacker Charles Burks is hoping that more visits from college coache this spring to Edison will turn into scholarship offers...

Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison defensive end Charles Burks is still holding one Pac-10 scholarship offer, but the 6-1, 230-pounder is hopeful that the spring will see more offers roll in.

"I still have only the Stanford offer but a lot of schools are still talking to me," said Burks. "I'm hearing from Arizona State, Washington, Oregon State, San Diego State and UCLA."

Burks said most schools envision him playing more linebacker than defensive end.

"They like me as a linebacker, but a linebacker that could rush the passer," said Burks.

Burks has been to Junior Days at Stanford and Arizona State and spring practice at UCLA, so those schools have earned high regard from him.

"Stanford is my number one, then Oregon State, UCLA of course because it's close to home and Arizona State because I really enjoyed their Junior Day," said Burks.

Burks said several schools have indicated plans to visit the Edison campus this spring and he's getting invitations to a host of college camps for spring and summer.

"I'm still waiting to see if any other schools pull the trigger and offer me, but I'm also getting closer to making a decision," said Burks.

Academically, Burks is in solid shape, with a 3.6 GPA and scored a 1650 on the SAT with plans to take it again later in the spring, along with the ACT.

During the 2009 season, Burks had 52 tackles and 14 sacks in 10 games for Edison and was named All-League Defense, All-Orange County Defense, All-CIF Defense and Sunset League Defensive Lineman of the Year.
