While he didn't panic when no offers were extended to him through late April, Martin now has a couple of Pac-10 offers, the most recent coming from a school, as he puts it, "right around the corner."
"Coach (Rick) Neuheisel at UCLA called and I just missed the call so I called him back and when I talked to him, he said they were going to offer me. I was excited. As a little kid, it was always between UCLA and USC for me. I watched UCLA as a kid, and to have an opportunity to go there now is really big," said Martin. "And to hear it from the big man himself, it was exciting to have that phone conversation."
Martin's first offer came from Washington two weeks ago and now he's got two Pac-10 offers, with the potential for more.
"My dad was real happy, because UCLA was one of those schools that he really liked and it was a school on my list," said Martin. "UCLA, USC, Washington and Florida are the schools I've liked and I've gotten offered by two of them."
Martin said he had an inkling an offer would be coming from the Bruins.
"The D-Line coach, (Todd) Howard, he was real excited when I had talked to him this spring," said Martin. "And Coach Neuheisel, he said ‘We'd been on you and then I saw you this season, I want you to give me a call'. I was like alright. I had a feeling that UCLA would be offering me."
Martin, who plays guard, said that Neuheisel wasn't specific about which spot they want him at.
"They offered me just as an offensive linemen," said Martin.
Martin said he thinks that USC could be the next to join the fray.
"They've been on me a lot," said Martin. "Coach TMac (Todd McNair) and I are establishing a relationship and I could tell things of that nature are coming because he said ‘We're real close to offering you.'
