That was the goal for Worthy, who wanted to make a big impression on the coaching staff of the school he called his childhood favorite.
"I knew I had to prove myself because UCLA is a good program in the Pac-10 and I had to show them," said Worthy. "Coach (Chuck) Bullough e-mailed me after the camp and told me to call him, so I called him and they offered me."
Worthy said that while UCLA is held in high esteem, he's not quite ready to make a decision, but the Bruins solidified their standing with him.
Worthy was hoping to make an early decision but as more schools have offered, he wants to experience the recruiting process some.
"I'm going to take some time now," said Worthy. "I'm going to take an official visit to Nebraska in the fall and maybe take some more trips."
"I'm flying out Wednesday to visit SMU and then next Monday I'm going to Boise State," said Worthy. "I'm going back to UCLA on the 19th (for the lineman camp) and then to SC for the Rising Stars Camp."
Worthy said he enjoyed working with the Bruin coaching staff on Sunday.
"Getting to work with Coach (Todd) Howard was cool," said Worthy. "He's really, really smart and he taught me a lot. They were riding me a lot today with the drills, trying to get my technique right. So when we went to team, I thought I dominated."
For Worthy, the offer from the Bruins was something he always wanted to happen.
"It's very relieving and a dream come true," said Worthy. "My family was very excited too."
Academically, Worthy has a 3.1 GPA and has achieved qualifying scores on the SAT and ACT.
