White Picks the Blue and Gold

Lakewood (Calif.) offensive lineman Torian White commits to the hometown Bruins, choosing UCLA on Saturday afternoon...

Missing most of his junior year with a sports hernia, Lakewood (Calif.) offensive lineman Torian White knew how important this spring was to get noticed.

It all paid off on Saturday, with White receiving an offer from hometown UCLA, and ultimately, committing to the Bruins and head coach Rick Neuheisel.

"I got an offer from UCLA and I committed," said White. "It's a pretty big deal now. This is a dream come true. It's all coming at once so it's been crazy. I just came here to work and it paid off. It was a blessing and I didn't expect it, but I'm really happy I got it. This is definitely the school I want to go to."

White, who stands 6-6, 270, said he's not sure if he'll redshirt yet, it hasn't been discussed, but he's open to whatever they decide.

"They're not too concerned with me putting on the weight, but hopefully I'll put on some more before I come," said White. "They do want me to be in the weight room, so I'll be lifting more."

White's father was with him when he committed to Neuheisel and UCLA, and White said he thinks this Father's Day present is better than what he originally had gotten him.

"My dad was with me, and he's really excited. This is a dream come true for both of us. He loves this school and I love this school and I can't wait to share the news with the rest of my family" said White. "And now I can take back the tacky tie I bought him for Father's Day."

Washington State and Colorado State had previously offered White, but he said his recruitment is completely over.

"I'm done with recruiting," said White. "I'm committed to UCLA. I still have to play just as hard as I would have before the offer, and do work this year, but I'm done with recruiting.

One of his teammates, Todd Barr, is a prospect UCLA has rated high on their board, and White said he's going to start recruiting his current teammate to be his future teammate.

"I'll definitely be working on Todd for UCLA," said White.

White has blossomed this spring at numerous camps.

He got things rolling at the Los Angeles NFTC, earning all-camp honors, followed it up with an all-camp selection at the GFA Academy and eventually Lineman MVP honors at the AIGA Big Man Challenge.
