Dinwiddie Sees Spark in Recruiting

Spencer Dinwiddie, the 6-4 senior point guard from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft, had a good spring and is following that up with an impressive summer, and college programs are picking up their interest...

Spencer Dinwiddie, 6-4 SR PG Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft, is one of the elite point guards in the West Coast class of 2011. A long and slender true point, Dinwiddie has a great feel, very good vision and passing ability. He's become a very accurate shooter beyond the stripe, although he needs to continue to quicken up his release. He's still maturing physically, but has added weight and strength in the last year. He's a prospect with a considerable upside and his best basketball is still ahead of him.

I spoke with Dinwiddie recently and asked about the schools that have been recruiting him.

"I'm hearing from Harvard, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, USC, Northwestern, Kansas, Georgetown, Santa Clara, Boston College and Georgia Tech," said Dinwiddie. "Harvard, Arizona State, Santa Clara and Northwestern have offered."

Dinwiddie has been to a number of schools on unofficial visits.

"I've been to UCLA, Arizona, USC and Kansas for camps," said Dinwiddie.

Dinwiddie said a couple factors will stand out for him when it comes time to pick a school.

"A good relationship with the coaches and early playing time," said Dinwiddie.

I asked Dinwiddie if he has a time frame in mind for choosing a school.

"I'd like to get it done by September," said Dinwiddie.

Dinwiddie said he has a 3.1 GPA.
