He's a quick and shifty driver who scores well off the dribble or spotting up from behind the arc, and his ball-handling is among the best in the class. He actually has played well throughout the spring and early summer, but his recent performances during the July evaluation period have brought forth many new suitors.
"I thought my list was narrowing down, but it's actually getting bigger," Carson said. "Right now it's UCLA (which offered in June), USC, Butler, Marquette, Arizona, U-W (Washington), Oregon, Oregon State, St. John's and Arizona State, plus some new Big East and ACC schools." When asked specifically about North Carolina, Carson said that his family indeed has been contacted by UNC assistant Steve Robinson. Though most of the schools on his list have offered and the Tar Heels have not, he's clearly interested in observing how their initial contact progresses.
"I've liked North Carolina a lot," Carson said, "I watch them play on TV a lot and really like how they play. That's one of the biggest programs around, but my situation with them is just starting."
Carson's slower approach to his recruitment is no accident.
"Everything is kind of hold right now," he said, "because my mom really wants me to stay focused on finishing out the summer and then think about (recruiting) later."
Carson added that he'd like to reserve his fall official visits for "Big East or ACC schools," including North Carolina and Pittsburgh, depending upon how his recruitment proceeds.
