"I've got a lot of interest right now in Cal and UCLA," said Gibson.
Gibson has long favored the Bears, who have been on him for some time, and where he's been leaning for quite some time.
But the Bruins have picked things up of late.
"UCLA is recruiting me pretty hard," said Gibson. "I got up there to visit a couple weeks ago and I like them. Coach (Rick) Neuheisel is recruiting me pretty hard himself."
Meanwhile, Cal continues to have a strong presence in his recruitment.
"I know I'm going to take an official visit there," said Gibson, who was unsure when he'll trip to Berkeley. "I like the atmosphere and the vibe at Cal. They're recruiting me really hard too."
For the time being, though, Gibson is focusing more on Serra's season, as they begin their CIF State D-III title defense on Friday night in a game televised by FSN Prime Ticket against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
Serra also moves up to the CIF-SS Western Division, and despite the move, continue to be the favorite.
"We have a lot of good talent back so I think we are going to be a real good team still," said Gibson.
Academically, Gibson is in fine shape, with a 3.4 GPA and took the SAT in the spring.
The all-state underclass selection had 94 tackles, 15.5 sacks and six pass deflections in the Cavs' run to the CIF State D-III title.
