Versatile Lyerla Mulls His Options

The five-star defensive end prospect from Oregon, Colt Lyerla, is a difficult man to get a hold of, but recently talked to him about recruiting, and he named a few schools of interest...

Hillsboro (Ore.) five-star prospect Colt Lyerla is one of the better athletes in this year's recruiting class on the west coast. Lyerla is such a versatile athlete that he has schools recruiting him at multiple positions.

To give you an idea of his ability, has him rated as a defensive end, he played receiver at this summer's Nike Camp in Corvallis, and he sees himself as a safety.

"I think I fit in best offensively as a slot, wide receiver, or the tight end position," said Lyerla. "On defense I want to play linebacker or safety." Lyerla has the size (6'5"), weight (226lbs), and speed (4.56, 40-yd) to play any of the positions listed above. Where he fits in is yet to be seen, but his combination of size and speed are a rare find.

College coaches around the country are salivating over his athleticism, and many have offered him a scholarship. Lyerla listed which of those schools he is currently considering.

"Couple off the top of my head, Oregon and Oregon State…of course the in-state schools," said Lyerla. "Also Oklahoma, Miami and UCLA."

After a busy summer, Lyerla will sit down and try to narrow his list.

"I'm thinking that after this summer, I'll have all the offers that are coming in," said Lyerla. "Once I see what is on the table, I'll be able to slim it down."

So does that mean an early decision?

"I wouldn't mind waiting until signing day. But really it is once I find the right fit, so whenever that is, then I'll decide."
