UConn Not Concerned

Athletic department officials at Connecticut said Wednesday evening they are not concerned about the eligibility of incoming basketball player Andre Drummond, despite a report by the Norwich Bulletin that the freshman center could face NCAA sanctions.

The Bulletin posted the story on its web site Wednesday afternoon, reporting that Drummond could encounter eligibility issues after appearing in a video at www.stacktv.stack.com, promoting the adiCrazy Light Shoe.

UConn's compliance department reviewed the story, a source said, and determined no penalty would be likely if the video is removed from the site. It isn't yet known if UConn would need to report a secondary violation to the NCAA, but that is a procedure that happens with great regularity. Often a player loses his eligibility in those cases, but it is quickly restored.

UConn issued the following statement regarding the report:

"UConn was made aware of the video in question late this afternoon and has reviewed it. Our compliance staff is comfortable that the video was made in advance of Andre's enrollment at UConn. Our next step is to simply follow up with the website on which it is posted and ask that it be removed, which we have already done."
