Ladders Part of Celebration

The unveiling of UConn's national championship banner won't be the only Final Four prop featured during the season opener at Gampel Pavilion Friday night.

The ladders from Reliant Stadium in Houston will be in attendance too. That's right, the ladders the Huskies used to cut down the nets after beating Butler in the national championship game will be there for the party.

Here's the news release sent out by the National Association of Basketball Coaches:

STORRS, Conn. — In honor of their 2011 NCAA® Division I Men's Basketball Championship, head coach Jim Calhoun and the University of Connecticut Huskies athletics department will be presented with a pair of ladders from Werner Ladder, the Official Ladder of the 2011 NCAA® Basketball Championships. The presentation will take place at halftime of the Huskies' season opener versus Columbia University on Friday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion.

"Werner Ladder is proud to be able to celebrate the achievements of Coach Calhoun and the University of Connecticut men's basketball team, who work so hard all year, both on and off the court," said Chris Filardi, Vice President of Marketing for Werner.

Calhoun will autograph both ladders used to cut down the 2011 championship nets. One ladder will be auctioned off at The UCONN Club fundraising event scheduled for February 4th, 2012 prior to the Seton Hall basketball game at the XL Center.
