Moorhead to Coach Fordham

Joe Moorhead is heading back to his alma mater and Connecticut is in the market for a new quarterbacks coach.

Fordham will officially introduce Moorhead as its new head football coach at a 1 p.m. press conference Friday on the Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx. Moorhead, 38, had been at UConn the last three seasons, serving two years as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach under Randy Edsall and the past season as quarterback coach under Paul Pasqualoni.

Moorhead, a 1996 Fordham graduate, was in the running for the job from the moment Fordham fired Tom Masella. Frank McLaughin, athletics director at Fordham, was at the school when Moorhead played there. Fordham is coming off a 1-10 season that included a 35-3 loss to UConn in the season opener. Masella was 27-40 in six seasons at Fordham.

Prior to his three seasons at UConn, Moorhead spent five season at Akron, including the last two as offensive coordinator. Moorhead also worked four seasons as an assistant coach at Georgetown after beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Pittsburgh.
