Signing Day Has Arrived

Wednesday is college football National Signing Day. It's the day for recruits to make their commitments official. Or, in some cases, change their minds.

Connecticut coach Paul Pasqualoni will announce the Huskies' Class of 2012 at a press conference Wednesday afternoon at Rentschler Field. There could be last-minute news, so keep checking Scout.com for the latest updates, including the decision of four-star defensive back Wayne Morgan of Brooklyn, N.Y., who is deciding between UConn and Syracuse. For now, here are brief biographies of UConn's 25-man recruiting class.

RICKY GUTIERREZ WR, 6-0, 170, American HS, Miami, Fla.: Committed on Jan. 27, 2012 . . . Chose UConn over Buffalo, Florida International, Kansas and Middle Tennessee. . . . His decision was announced on Twitter by his father, Ricky Gutierrez, the former MLB shortstop who played for the Mets and Red Sox – among others.

Elijah Norris DE, 6-5, 234, Archbishop Carroll HS, Washington, D.C.: Was a three-year varsity starter . . . . Named all-conference honorable mention in his sophomore year. . . . As a junior, he was named all-conference second team. . . . Final three included James Madison and Marshall. . . . Runs 40 in 4.63.

BOBBY PUYOL K, 6-0, 170, William T. Dwyer HS, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.: Ninth ranked kicker in the nation by California based kicking recruiting service. . . In his senior year he made 9 of 12 field goals and converted 50 of 52 extra points. . . . On 78 kickoffs, he had 66 touchbacks. . . . Florida, Purdue and Duke were on his list.

Zach Rugg T, 6-5, 275 ,Bishop McCort HS, Johnstown, Pa. : Was named All Camp honoree at Penn State Nike Camp . . . In 12 games his senior year Rugg finished with 99 tackles (60 solo), 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, averaging 8.3 tackles per game . . . CHANDLER WHITMER QB, 6-1, 188, Butler County (Kan.) CC, South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.: Originally enrolled at Illinois in the fall of 2010 and was a redshirt. . . . Named to The Champaign News-Gazette's All-State team following his senior year of high school at Downers Grove (Ill.) South. . . . Earned all state and all-area honors. . . . .Whitmer will have three years of eligibility at Connecticut. . . . Spent the 2011 fall semester at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan. . . . Whitmer was 180 for 316 in the air for 3,022 yards this past season with 25 TDs and 14 interceptions. Butler was the second-ranked junior college team nationally this past season.

Jhavon Williams DB, 5-11, 180, Palm Beach Central High School, Wellington, Fla.: Was a member of the North vs. South FACA All Star Game. . . . Palm Beach Post All Area Second Team member in 2010 . . . Has some good ball skills and should fit in nice. . . . Also had offers from Kentucky and New Mexico.

Joe Williams RB, 6-0, 205, Fork Union Military Academy, Emmaus,Pa. : Rushed for 1,243 yards and scored 18 touchdowns as a senior at Emmaus High before going to Fork Union where he rushed for 480 yards on 35 carries scoring six touchdowns. .. First team All-Lehigh Valley Conference selection. …Williams was a track standout as he won the LVC outdoor track titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash.
