The Husky Shuffle

Desperate times? Maybe not. Time to make some changes? Coach Jim Calhoun thinks so.

The Connecticut Huskies have lost three consecutive games, have fallen out of the national polls and are dropping in the RPI. UConn is running out of games. Each one becomes valuable now.

So, the Huskies arrived in Washington, D.C., Tuesday night to play Georgetown and Calhoun announced he is shaking up the starting lineup. Captains Shabazz Napier and Alex Oriakhi will be coming off the bench. Freshman Ryan Boatright will make his first start at point guard. Roscoe Smith is in for Oriakhi at power forward. The revolving door continues at small forward, where Niels Giffey is back in the lineup for DeAndre Daniels.

Good move? Only time will tell. With Boatright out under NCAA eligibility review, Calhoun didn't have this option at point guard. Napier had his worst game of the season against Notre Dame Sunday and UConn's offense has been stagnant against zones. The Huskies need to score easy points and simply score more. Calhoun has shown more than enough patience with Oriakhi, who is having a disappointing season.

Everybody will play. Maybe the minutes won't change that much. And you know what Calhoun always says: "I'm much more concerned with who finishes the game."
