Reports: Hathaway New Hofstra AD

Former Connecticut athletic director Jeff Hathaway will be the next AD at Hofstra and will be introduced at the school during a news conference Tuesday morning, according to multiple reports.

Hathaway, who was forced out at UConn last fall after a review by UConn president Susan Herbst, was the chair of the NCAA men's basketball committee the past year. He oversaw the 2012 NCAA Tournament, which set TV viewing and attendance marks. Hathaway also was a consultant to the Big East Conference, a position that made it possible for him to hold on to his chairman position with the basketball committee.

While chastised for several negative situations within the UConn athletic department – most notably his strained relationship with basketball coach Jim Calhoun – Hathaway's final season included a national championship in men's basketball, a Final Four appearance in women's basketball, an appearance by the football team in the 2011 Fiesta Bowl and a trip to the NCAA tournament for the UConn baseball team.

Hathaway served more than a decade under Lew Perkins at UConn, left to become AD at Colorado State and then returned to UConn in 2003 when Perkins became AD at Kansas.

Hathaway, 52, replaces Jack Hayes, who took the AD position at Brown University last month. Hayes is a former associate director of athletics at UConn.
