Hartley Cleared

Connecticut guard Bria Hartley, who has spent most of the preseason in a protective boot as she recovers from a medial sprain of her left ankle, has been cleared to play again.

Hartley's availability for Friday's exhibition opener against Indiana University in Storrs will be determined as the week goes along. Hartley was injured during the FIBA 3 x # World Championship in Greece before returning to school at UConn.

UConn issued a press release Tuesday with this update on Hartley from team athletic trainer Rosemary Ragle:

"Bria was cleared today to begin progressing back into practice and she did some functional drills on the side. Her participation in practice tomorrow will be determined by how she feels. Each day the hope is to involve her more and more so she will be ready to play on Friday."

Also Tuesday, Hartley and forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis were named honorable mention preseason All-Americans by the Associated Press. And both were named to the 2012-13 preseason Wade Watch list.

The 2012 AP Preseason All-America Team consists of Baylor's Brittney Griner, Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins, Delaware's Elena Delle Donne, Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike, Baylor's Odyssey Sims and Maryland's Alyssa Thomas.

Joining Hartley and Mosqueda-Lewis on the Honorable Mention list is Florida International's Jerica Coley, Kansas's Angel Goodrich, Tayler Hill of Ohio State, Nebraska's Jordan Hooper, Maggie Lucas of Penn State, Kevi Luper (Oral Roberts), A'dia Mathies of Kentucky, Georgetown's Sugar Roberts and Duke's Elizabeth Williams.
