UConn Next to ACC?

The University of Maryland finalized plans Monday to leave the Atlantic Coast Conference and will join the Big Ten for the 2014-15 season. The latest shift in the college athletics landscape could open the door for Connecticut to leave the Big East and head to the ACC.

Rutgers is expected to leave the Big East for the Big Ten no later than Tuesday. There was increased speculation Monday on the Internet that the ACC will look at UConn, Louisville, South Florida and Cincinnati as candidates. Louisville and Cincinnati may also be candidates to join the Big 12.

In any event, this latest round of move could put the future of the Big East in serious doubt.

There have been no reports of contact between UConn and the ACC at this point.
