NFL Checking Out Huskies

UConn will hold its annual Pro Scout Day in Storrs on Wednesday. Fourteen Huskies are expected to participate in the evaluations.

The NFL will descend on the Connecticut campus in Storrs on Wednesday. That's when the UConn football team will hold its annual Pro Scout Day.

Fourteen 2012 UConn seniors are expected to take part in the weigh-ins, timing and testing Wednesday afternoon at the Mark R. Shenkman Training Center and The Burton Family Football Complex. The purpose of Pro Scout Day is for NFL teams to get a chance to evaluate several players on site as the NFL draft approaches.

The NFL draft will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York from April 25-27.

According to UConn, the follow players are expected to participate: Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB; Ryan Wirth, DT; Trevardo Williams DE/OLB; Nick Williams, WR/KR/PR; Mike Smith, WR; Sio Moore, LB; Johnny McEntee, QB; Adam Masters, OL; Teddy Jennings, DE; Jory Johnson, LB; Ryan Griffin, TE; John Delahunt, TE; Dwayne Gratz, CB; and Denzel Allen, WR.

Trevardo Williams, Wreh-Wilson, Moore and Gratz have a head start on the others after participating in last month's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. All four impressed scouts to different levels and brought attention to the UConn program.

"I was very proud of what they did," UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni said. "The other thing I'm proud of is that they acted the right way and they performed the right way. The guys in the NFL I've talked to are good friends. To hear their comments on how the kids behaved, how they went through the drills and what their knowledge was . . . everybody should be proud of how those kids handled themselves."

Pasqualoni said the four UConn players went into it "like it was the biggest interview of their life. And that's the way they're supposed to go into it." He also said there is no chance to "relax" until after Pro Day.

"They get a couple of weeks and then they'll never relax again after the draft – if they want a job," he said with a laugh. "We're proud of the way they handled it.

"The thing we've got to do is get four guys on the offensive side in the combine."

Pro Day is not open to the public. . . . According to the New Haven Register, UConn kicker Chad Christen will miss the remainder of spring practice after reinjuring his groin. Christen, who suffered the injury at the end of the 2012 season, was injured during recent warm ups and has had repair surgery to be ready for the 2013 season.
