Power Schedule for UConn Men

The first conference basketball schedule in the history of the American Athletic Conference was released Wednesday, allowing UConn to announce its entire men's basketball slate for 2013-14. With two games against defending NCAA champion Louisville, two games against Memphis, Florida and a possible meeting with Indiana in the 2K Sports Classic, the Huskies will face several challenges.

Here's the release from Connecticut:

STORRS, Conn. (Aug. 21, 2013) --- Two games against defending national champion Louisville, three games in New York City, and the chance to be the first champion of the American Athletic Conference highlight the UConn 2013-14 men's basketball schedule, released by the school Wednesday.

The Huskies will play a 31-game regular-season slate, including 18 conference games in The American, home-and-home series against each of the nine other conference teams. An aggressive non-conference schedule will feature six games against teams from the power conferences ACC, SEC, Pac-12 and possibly the Big 10. The schedule includes 10 games against teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season, rising to 11 should the Huskies play against Indiana in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.

UConn will play 18 regular-season home games, as well as two home exhibition games, with the breakdown of the home venues to be announced in the coming weeks. Complete game times and television coverage will also be forthcoming at a later date.

After exhibition games against Southern Connecticut State University (Oct. 30) and Concordia University of Chicago (Nov. 4), the Huskies will open their regular season on Friday, Nov. 8, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., against ACC member Maryland.

UConn will then come home to play in-state rival Yale (Nov. 11) as well as the first two games of the 2K Sports Classic, benefiting Wounded Warrior Project against Detroit (Nov. 14) and Boston University (Nov. 17).

Following that, the Huskies will head back to New York City for the championship rounds of the 2K Sports Classic in Madison Square Garden on Nov. 21 and 22. UConn will renew its rivalry with Boston College in the semifinals, and will challenge either Indiana or Washington in the third-place or championship game the next night.

The remainder of the non-conference schedule is highlighted by home games against perennial national powers Florida (Dec. 2) and Stanford (Dec. 18) as well as a trip to the West Coast to take on Washington (Dec. 22) in Seattle. Other non-conference opponents include home games against Loyola (Md.), Maine, Eastern Washington, and Harvard.

UConn will begin competition in The American with a trip to Texas that begins with a New Year's Eve contest at Houston and continues with a game at SMU in Dallas on Jan. 4. The Huskies' first home game in The American will take place on Jan. 11 against UCF.

Louisville will come to UConn on Saturday, Jan. 18, for ESPN GameDay, while the Huskies will finish the regular season in Louisville on March 8. The Huskies will also play home-and-home series against the two Texas schools, as well as UCF, Cincinnati, Memphis, Temple, USF, and Rutgers.

The first-ever American Athletic Conference Tournament is set for March 12-15 at FedExForum in Memphis.
