Austrie Has Short List

Craig Austrie, a combo forward from Stamford, Connecticut, is a pesky on-the-ball defender with a solid handle and good quickness

Craig Austrie, a 6-2, 170-pound combo forward from Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford, Connecticut, is a player out of the class of 2005 who should garner more exposure over the course of the spring and summer.

Austrie's Trinity team was arguably the top program in the state of Connecticut this year, ripping off 27 straight wins en route to a state title with a crew that also featured Duke-bound small forward Dave McClure.

Austrie is a pesky on-the-ball defender with a solid handle and good quickness. He'll need to continue to add strength.

Early on, some high majors have been poking around. Craig told us that UConn, Marquette, Florida State, George Mason, Florida, and Wisconsin among the schools who have expressed an interest. UConn and Marquette were two programs that came in to evaluate Austrie during his high school season.

"UConn is really looking at me right now, and Marquette is looking at me," said Austrie. "George Mason is the only school to really offer me at this point."

Craig will play this spring and summer with the Connect Talent and Stamford Express (formerly Connecticut Flame) AAU teams.

Craig is a relative unknown outside of his home state, but he should pick up more suitors in the coming months.
