NYC Guard Lists UCONN Among Favorites

Connecticut is among the schools Jesse Sapp likes the most

Year in and year out the New York City Gauchos are one of the most successful AAU programs. Last summer, the Gauchos won several major tournament titles. This season it will probably be more difficult without such players like Russell Robinson, Sundiata Gaines and Ronald Ramon. But there are a few holdovers from last year's great team. One of them is a guard -- Jesse Sapp.

Sapp competed with the Gauchos this weekend at Basketball City in New York City. Sapp is looking to improve a few aspects in his game. "I want to get stronger and take the ball to the basket better," Sapp said. "I also want to help my team win. I want to help my team win any way possible."

Sapp did have an impressive summer last season with the Gauchos. He had some key baskets and was utilized in clutch moments by the Gauchos staff when needed. He will be counted on more to provide more offense. So it's going to be a big summer for Sapp.

"I am open in my recruiting," Sapp said. "But I am interested in Pittsburgh, St. John's, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Miami, Ohio State, Stanford, and Marshall," he stated. "I think I am going to take a visit to Pittsburgh in early September. I am not sure when I might take some unofficial visits."

Jesse said he doesn't have one leader but indicated Georgia Tech, Maryland, and Connecticut were among his favorites. "I would like to take as many visits as I can," he said. "I would like to see the schools that are on my list."

Sapp will next compete with the Gauchos at the Memorial Day Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana.
