Costner Discusses Recruiting, UCONN

The National Champions have a great shot at combo forward Brandon Costner

Brandon Costner, the talented 6-8, 210-pound combo forward from Seton Hall (NJ) Prep, is going through an extremely busy summer. In addition to a ton of events on the AAU circuit, he's been overseas in Germany for Team USA, will participate in the USA Olympic Festival, and will make it to adidas Superstars camp in July. In between, he's been squeezing in visits to various college campuses.

The most recent visit Costner took was to NC State while his Playaz AAU team was competing in the Tournament of Champions. "I took an unofficial to North Carolina State," said Costner. "That went well. I like the coaches and it's a beautiful campus. They've offered me."

In fact, the offer from NC State adds to a long list of offers that Costner currently has, which includes Connecticut, Indiana, Michigan, UCLA, Kansas, Seton Hall, St. Joseph's, and Villanova. He has offers from some other schools, but these nine appear to be the schools he is seriously considering at this point.

Costner noted that distance from home would not be a factor - which is not surprising considering the one official visit he's taken so far was to UCLA. Costner has made several unofficial visits -- basically anywhere that's within reasonable driving distance. One such trip was up to Storrs to see the Huskies -- which made an impression on the young forward.

"I like UConn a lot," said Costner. "I've been up there on an unofficial visit and I've talked with Coach Calhoun a lot. We've had some good conversations."

Another school that Costner has been to several times is St. Joseph's - where father Tony starred in the early 80's. "St. Joe's is intriguing," said Costner. "My dad played there so I've been there a ton of times, so I'm definitely used to it."
