UCONN Target Takes Trip

Vernon Goodridge will be taking in a Big East team camp this weekend

Vernon Goodridge, a 6-foot-9 center from New York City, took an unofficial visit to St. John's University last night. Goodridge, a shot-blocking specialist who played for New Heights this past weekend at the Rumble in the Bronx, stated he had a good time visiting new head coach Norm Roberts and his staff.

"It was a real nice trip," said Goodridge who visited with his family. "It was nice talking to the coaches about the school and the team.

Goodridge said that there is a good opportunity to play right away at St. John's. "They said I would be able to get a lot of minutes in my first year," he stated.

There is plenty of competition for Goodridge. "The list is really long now," he said. "There are some schools that are recruiting me harder than others."

Though Goodridge named a top five with reporter Russ Blake this past weekend, Vernon said he is open and each school on his list has a chance. Among the schools mentioned include Georgia Tech, Seton Hall, North Carolina, Georgetown, Connecticut, Syracuse, Michigan, Miami, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Iowa State, Pittsburgh, Arizona, UCLA, Cincinnati, DePaul and Florida. "It's really too early to say what schools I will visit," Goodridge said. "There are a lot of schools I am considering."

"I don't have a leader," Goodridge said. "I am just looking at improving my game this summer. I am going to camp this weekend at Villanova. Then I plan on going to the ADIDAS camp (Georgia)."
