Villanueva: "I Made The Best Move Going To UCONN"

Charlie Villanueva spoke to the Insiders Report today

The gym at FDU in Teaneck, New Jersey has been filled with many future college basketball stars. But one already established in the college world of hoops spent some time this week helping the youngsters at the Reebok ABCD camp. Charlie Villanueva, who helped Connecticut win a National Championship this past season, is excited about his future.

"Coach Calhoun wants to play me at the three/four (small forward/power forward position)," Villanueva said. "I am really excited about the players coming back and the new players."

Charlie said it took some time to get used to the game of college basketball, especially in such a tough conference like the Big East. "The pace of the game is much faster on the college level than on the high school level," he said. "It took some time to get adjusted to it in the beginning. But as the year went on it became easier."

Villanueva said he is very happy with his choice of playing college basketball first. "I needed to work on some things and am still working on my game," he said. "I made the best move going to UCONN. It has given me a chance to polish my game and become a better player. I am very happy about going to Connecticut."

Charlie said he is working hard this summer on all aspects of his game. "I think it's the time to work on everything -- strength, ballhandling, quickness, defense. I want to be ready when the season starts."
