UCONN 2006 Target Changing Schools

Taj Gibson has many high division one programs interested in his skills

A possible Connecticut target in the class of 2006 is trying to figure out where he will be playing his high school basketball this upcoming Fall. Taj Gibson, a lanky and mobile 6-foot-8 power forward from Brooklyn, N.Y., spent this past year at Stone Ridge Prep in Southern California. He's not sure if he's headed back there or to a prep school on the East Coast.

"I could go to Notre Dame Prep (Massachusetts), Laurinburg Institute (in North Carolina) or IMG Academy (in Florida)," Gibson said. "I am not sure though right now what I am going to do."

What Gibson does seem to know is that he'll spend the summer touring with Pat Barrett's Southern California All-Stars instead of his typical New York Gaucho program. After ABCD, he'll play with SCA at the Reebok Big Time Tournament and Reebok West Tournament.

Gibson said that he was home schooled for much of his life before enrolling for a year at Telecommunications H.S. in Brooklyn for the 2002-2003 school year. The 18-year old then spent this past year at Stone Ridge, and said he may need two more years of high school before moving on to the college level.

Among the Division I programs that have expressed early interest in Gibson besides the Connecticut program are St. John's, Georgetown, Oregon State, UCLA and Georgia.
