UCONN Lands Spot In Top 2 With Rising Junior

Casiem Drummond has an early top five in his recruiting race

Yes, it's early in the recruiting process. But it's probably smart to jump in with rising juniors too as many high school players accelerate their college decisions.

Connecticut is one of a few schools doing so with rising junior star Casiem Drummond, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Drummond competed last night at the Reebok East event. And the Connecticut staff was on hand to watch his game as were several other high major programs including St. John's, Seton Hall, and Kansas.

Drummond is an impressive high school player. Despite his size, he showed a feathery touch from the outside. He can also be tough inside but needs to strengthen the body.

Drummond, who already has developed a top five list and has a few offers on the table, is likely to evaluate his recruiting process during his junior high school season. "I am trying to work on my strength," Drummond said. "I want to get stronger to help my inside game. I have always had a good touch from the outside."

Drummond has already taken an unofficial visit to St. John's. "They offered me," he said. "I am also interested in Connecticut, Kansas, Memphis, and Seton Hall."

When asked if he had a favorite, he said: "No. Not really. Connecticut and St. John's stand out to me the most because they are recruiting me the most. But I am open and don't have one favorite right now."

Drummond said after the Reebok East tournament concludes, he will take a trip to West Virginia and play at that tournament.
