UConn Target Bynum Breaks Out At Peach Jam

Stong played by UConn prospects Andrew Bynum and Paul Gause helped their New Jersey All-Stars to a .500 record at the Peach Jam.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- The up and down play has continued here at the Peach Jam Tournament for Frank Burg's New Jersey All-Stars program, who split a pair of games on Thursday in Pool A action.

In the morning, the All-Stars dusted the Metro Hawks, 87-69 behind 15 points apiece from guard Paul Gause and forward Jeff Robinson. Maurice Thomas (14 points), Craig Moore (13 points, nine assists) and Jaron Griffin (12 points) also hit for double figures against the Hawks.

The Metro Hawks led 40-36 at the half, but a strong second half performance by the All-Stars allowed them to win it going away.

In the evening session, the All-Stars fell behind 10 at the half and dropped an 87-76 decision to the South Carolina Ravens.

Devan Downey continued his spectacular play for the Ravens, collecting 24 points and 10 assists. Shooting guard Zach Rich chipped in 16, guard Jeremiah Richardson 15 and combo forward Mike Jones 10 points.

For the All-Stars, Andrew Bynum finally put together a monster effort, registering 20 points and 18 rebounds. His front line mate, center Brian Zoubek, also earned a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Unfortunately for the All-Stars, guard play was the difference, with the South Carolina troop doing a number on their Garden State counterparts.

New Jersey heads into Friday morning's pool play at 2-2 overall, with a chance to still make the playoffs with a win and help from some other teams in its pool.
