It was the Gauchos second victory of the day, as they improved to 3-1 in Pool B action. More importantly, the win put the Gauchos in strong contention for one of eight playoff bids.
With the winless Albany City Rocks on the horizon Friday morning, the Gauchos are in a good position to land one of the two playoff slots from Pool B. Team Texas and BABC also stand at 3-1 in pool play, but they face stiffer challenges (on paper) than the Gauchos.
The Gauchos are hoping for a chance to defend their 2003 Peach Jam title.
Fields, who scored 21 points in an earlier victory over BABC on Thursday morning, got ample help in the win over Oregon. Jessie Sapp and Weyinnin Efejuku added 11 points apiece, while rock solid Antonio Pena contributed eight points and four boards.
Oregon Select's rising sophomore power forward / center Kevin Love gave the Gauchos fits. He scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a losing effort. Guards Latravis Turner and Jeremy Reedal each notched 14 points for Oregon, while small forward Kyle Singler added nine points and nine rebounds.
The loss dropped Oregon to 2-2 in pool play.
