In Search Of A Big Man In 2005 Class

The next two weeks are very important for the Connecticut basketball program

The Connecticut basketball program has been all over the country evaluating some of the best big men available in the class of 2005. There are several targets that are likely to get some serious interest. Among them -- John Garcia, Jeff Adrien, Vernon Goodridge, Tyrell Biggs, and Jeff Adrien.

As reported by this site last week, Adrien was extended an offer by the Connecticut program after his great play at the Peach Jam. Adrien, 6-foot-6, plays much bigger than his size and also has interest from high major schools.

Vernon Goodridge is also likely to be evaluated more intensely in the next two weeks. Goodridge told us he will be in Vegas playing for Rick Barrett's NJ AAU team. Look for a story on Goodridge to be posted today.

Also, the Connecticut program has been staying in touch with Long Island big man John Garcia, 6-foot-9 of Brentwood High School on Long Island. Garcia already has many scholarship offers -- Virginia Tech, Providence, St. John's, Rutgers, Richmond, Hofstra, and Pittsburgh.

Connecticut has yet to offer. However, the National Champs could offer Garcia soon, according to sources close to the big man. Garcia is a big man who enjoys playing five to six feet within the basket and doesn't mind doing the dirty work.

Tyrell Biggs, 6-foot-7 from Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, has seen Duke fade from the recruiting race. But Biggs is a terrific player. Two weeks should never determine a player's level. Biggs is an outstanding offensive player with a soft touch from the outside. It's likely that the Connecticut staff continues to evaluate Biggs over the next couple of weeks. This site will have updates on each of these possible Connecticut targets from the events they are competing at this week.
