UConn quarterback Dan Orlovsky, who earlier this summer was named to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list, today found his name on another list, that of the Maxwell Football Club's College Player of the Year award.
enters his final season of collegiate play poised to break almost every UConn career passing record this upcoming season. The Shelton, Conn. native is second among all active passers in the nation with 61 career touchdown passes and eighth with 7,352 career passing yards. He's guided UConn to wins in 13 of the team's last 16 contests, including a 51-17 victory at Wake Forest
to cap a 9-3 season in 2003.
Last fall, the 6-foot-5 team leader and NFL prospect was named the Independent Offensive MVP by ESPN.com after finishing seventh in the nation in passing and in the top 15 of several other major categories, including passing yardage and efficiency. Orlovsky was also honored by the Walter Camp Football Foundation as itsConnecticut Player of the Year.
Other Big East Conference players on the list of 41 players are West Virginia's Chris Henry and Rasheed Marshall and Syracuse's Walter Reyes.
Last season, Mississippi's Eli Manning edged out Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald for the 2003 award.
