Goodridge Talks About Official Visits

Vernon Goodridge has had a good summer and also has many high major offers

LOS ANGELES -- Vernon Goodridge's summer ended on Friday here at the Best of the Summer Tournament, as his New Jersey Gym Rat squad dropped a 65-63 decision to the Friends of Hoops Seattle team.

Following the game, Goodridge shared his thoughts on the recruiting process, and where things stand as we head into the month of August.

The 6-9, 220-pound power forward/center from Lutheran Christian Academy in Philadelphia via Brooklyn, N.Y., said that he has narrowed his focus to six high major programs this summer.

Goodridge said that each of the finalists have offered scholarships. They are Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Connecticut and Pittsburgh.

"I plan on relaxing a little bit and getting ready for the school year when I get back home," Goodridge said on Friday morning at Loyola Marymount. "Take things a day at a time."

Goodridge said he probably won't make a commitment until taking some official visits this fall.

"I will probably take visits to Mississippi State, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, UConn and Georgetown," he said. "I am not sure about Virginia Tech yet."

A prospective student-athlete can take up to five official campus visits.

"I don't even know how it will all go yet," he admitted. "I don't want to say I will do something and then not do it, so I will just take it as it comes."

Despite rumors earlier this month that Goodridge was a lock for Mississippi State, he deflected talk of a leader.

"Everybody is pretty much on the same level until I take the visits," he said. "Mississippi State, Seton Hall and UConn have done a good job and I always see them at my games."

Goodridge said that distance won't play a factor in his ultimate choice. "It doesn't really matter where I am at," he said. "You have to make the best of the situation, and that's what I am trying to do."
