Johnson Setting Up Trips

Mike Hughes provides us the latest on Marcus Johnson's recruiting process

Marcus Johnson solidified himself as one of the nation's top small forward's this summer. That's why the past two NCAA Champions, Syracuse and Connecticut, and future Big East rival Louisville are currently duking it out for his services.

With school set to begin for the 6-6 wing from Westchester H.S. in Los Angeles early next month, the wheels on Johnson's recruitment are rapidly turning faster.

There are two possibilities for Johnson to visit. Johnson had indicated he might take a trip to Connecticut this weekend. However, sources tell us that the Huskies might bring Johnson in on September 17th.

Huskies coach Jim Calhoun is also scheduled to make an in-home visit with Johnson September 9 and the athletic forward will make an official visit to Louisville the next day, September 10.

"They're showing a lot of interest in me right now," Johnson said of the Orange, Huskies and Cardinals.

Johnson also mentioned Georgia Tech, UNLV, UCLA and Arizona as schools that remain in his recruiting picture, "But Louisville, Syracuse and UCONN are still my leaders."

Johnson also has a pretty good handle on what factors he'll use to make a final decision when the time comes.

"I'm going to look at each schools roster and see how many players they'll have at my position," Johnson explained. "Another important factor will be how comfortable my mom feels with each coaching staff and how well I like the campus."

"My mom will play a big part in helping me make a decision and she'll also make all the visits with me," Johnson added.
