Coach Calhoun Checks Out NJ Big Man

Andrew Bynum had an in-school visit with UConn's Jim Calhoun.

Andrew Bynum,'s number one center, is being checked out by top Division I coaches this week.

On Monday, it was the head coach from the national champion Connecticut Huskies, Jim Calhoun, who came to St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, N.J. to check the 7-foot-0, 240 pound center. And on Thursday, Georgia Tech's Paul Hewitt and North Carolina's Roy Williams are scheduled to be at the gym.

Bynum's stock has risen with his improved play over the summer. UConn recently dropped out of the recruiting for another top big man, Vernon Goodridge from Brooklyn and Darryl Scofield's Lutheran Christian program in Philadelphia.

Next month, Bynum will start his official visits. His first visit will be to Georgia, the weekend of October 1st. Then Bynum and his family will take a trip to Georgia Tech on October 3rd. Chapel Hill is his destination for Midnight Madness weekend (10/15) with a Storrs, Conn. trip the following weekend. Bynum also lists Rutgers and Georgetown among his favorites.

He plans to make a decision in time for the fall National Letter of Intent period (11/10-17/2004).
