UConn Hosts 3-1 Florida International

Florida International's first year coach Sergio Rouco has the Golden Panthers off to a 3-1 start.

Rouco is on his third stint at FIU. He left the University in the spring of 2003 to become an assistant at UTEP. He had been an assistant under Golden Panther head coaches Rich Walker and Bob Weltlich from 1987-91 and Donnie Marsh from 2000-03.

The Golden Panthers, fresh off a last-second 63-61 victory at Central Connecticut State, conclude their two-game New England road trip tonight. This will mark the first meeting ever between FIU and UConn.

This is only the eighth time in the 24-year history of the FIU program that the Golden Panthers have started out a season, 3-1. With their road win at Central Connecticut State on Sunday, the Golden Panthers snapped a string of 16-straight road losses dating back to Feb. 200.

FIU has limited its four opponents to a 33.9-percent field goal percentage, which is best in the Sun Belt Conference. They rank second in league statistics allowing 59.2 points per game

FIU is averaging 14 assists per game thus far after finishing last in the conference a year ago with an average of just nine per game.

The Golden Panthers also beat Florida Atlantic, 65-62 and Florida A&M, 70-45. Hofstra pulled out a 69-67 road win at FIU's Pharmed Arena.
