The University of Connecticut received its first commitment of the Class of 2006 in Rochester, NY (Penfield High School) Wide Receiver Kevin Poles (6-2, 190, 4.5).

"I committed to UCONN today," Poles said. "I visited there recently and saw that they're and upcoming football program. I didn't see any reason to wait any longer."

Poles chose UConn over offers from Toledo, New Hampshire, and Buffalo. Syracuse and Boston College were also becoming players in Poles recruitment, but he decided that he wanted to make a decision now.

"Coach Robinson of Syracuse came to my school but I just wanted the recruiting process over with," Poles said. "I can now concentrate on getting ready for football season."

Poles plans on working out with his Penfield Football team all summer.

Poles was named All-Greater Rochester and All-County as a junior. He caught 32 passes for 800 yards and 6 touchdowns. Poles is widely recognized as one of the top 20 football players in the state of New York this year.
