UConn Considering Eugene Harvey?

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Eugene Harvey has picked up a number of scholarship offers this summer, and the jet quick 5-11 point guard from St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J., is now thinking about taking some official visits this fall.

Harvey, who scored 19 points and propelled Aneesa Sports past Team Odom last night at the Reebok/Verizon New York City Hoops Festival, said he could visit both Pittsburgh and Mississippi State in September.

"I am going to go to Pitt and Mississippi State," Harvey said. "It helps that my friend Vernon Goodridge is down at Mississippi State."

While these dates are very tentative, Harvey said he is hoping to visit Mississippi State the weekend of Sept. 10 and Pittsburgh the following weekend.

According to Harvey, both MSU and Pitt have offered scholarships. Others who have offered include Florida State and Miami. Harvey added that he is also considering UConn, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Rutgers and Seton Hall.

Depending on how his September visits go, Harvey said he is also mulling a trip to UConn in October or November.

"I talked to [Asst. Coach] Tom Moore once, but the UConn staff has mainly been talking to my father," Harvey said. "When Coach Calhoun talked to my father, he said that if I would commit right now, they would take me."

However, sources tell us that Connecticut is very interested in Harvey but has yet to offer a scholarship. Harvey could become a part of Connecticut's recruiting process more as the weeks move along.

Of course, the Brooklyn native has one more year to finish at St. Benedict's, where he averaged 17 points, seven assists and four steals per game as a junior. He'll lead Aneesa Sports tonight against the Playaz Basketball Club in the semifinals of the Reebok/Verizon New York Hoops Festival.
