Kaili McLaren Commits to the Huskies

After visiting all of the schools that made her final list, Kaili McLaren weighed her choices. In the end, the 6-2 forward from Washington D.C. chose to commit to the UConn Huskies over Ohio State, Maryland and Virginia, she announced today. She will sign her national letter of commitment on Friday, November 11 in a ceremony that includes the signings of two of her teammates.

McLaren said that she chose the Huskies because she felt Connecticut was the best fit for her. She also enjoyed the atmosphere and the strong fan support.

"I was up in Connecticut for the Super Show and the atmosphere was unlike anything I've seen anywhere else," she said. "The girls on the team are all so close and I really connected with them."

McLaren committed to UConn coach Geno Auriemma on Friday evening and caught him as he and his wife were heading out to dinner. McLaren said, "I think I caught him by surprise. He was excited and said he couldn't wait for us to get started and that Connecticut is the best place for me."

While McLaren and Auriemma have hit it off, she also had praise for Associate Head Coach Chris Daily.

"I have to say something about CD," McLaren went on. "I can't wait to practice with her. I'm probably closer to Tonya [Cardoza} but I can't wait to work with CD."

The distance from Washington D.C. to Storrs won't be an issue with McLaren's family. She said they all had a talk and her family said they wanted her to do what was best for her and that they supported her decision to commit to UConn.

Now that her college decision has been made, McLaren said her two immediate concerns were getting into better shape and working hard to help her high school, Our Lady of Good Counsel High in Wheaton, Md, defend their conference championship. She's also looking forward to honing her skills against top competition at the Nike TOC in Phoenix this December.

"I'm just so happy to have chosen Connecticut," McLaren said with a smile in her voice.
