Ray Taylor; Huskies Still Lead?

Ray Taylor of Paterson Catholic HS (NJ) has a number of offers on the table and the standout cornerback recently spoke with Scout.com to inform us of just where his recruitment stands these days.

"Right now I like Connecticut, South Florida, Rutgers, Western Michigan, Kansas, Akron, and Virginia," Taylor said. "I have offers everyone, but I'd have to say South Florida, UConn, and Kansas are recruiting me the hardest right now. I haven't been hearing as much from the others lately except Western Michigan."

With his list comprising a number of Big East schools we asked him what his immediate thoughts were of those schools.

"UConn...I think they've done well and I like them. They have kept in contact with me a good bit. South Florida has been after me hard too...I have an official visit lined up with them soon so I'll get to see things down there," Taylor said.

Standing 6'1 and 170 pounds the New Jersey native is a tremendous coverage cornerback. Taylor has 4.5 speed and uses his speed to keep receivers on a tight leash. Last season he made five interceptions and this year he has already surpassed that total. His athleticism has helped Paterson Catholic in all facets as he gave us the lowdown on his team's current status.

"Right now we're 9-0," he said. "Offensively I'm not really doing anything much. I mean it could be better, but it's not focused on me offensively because we run the ball a lot.

"Defensively though I've got six interceptions, two of them I've returned for touchdowns. I've also got two punt returns for touchdowns too. Right now I've got probably 45-50 tackles on the season so far."

While a lot of young players relish the accolades of being on the offensive side of the ball Taylor seemed to be just the opposite. With his team's 9-0 record it's easy to see why he was content with his role on the team as things have unfolded nicely for them thus far. His athletic ability may cause some to wonder where college coaches would like to place him on the next level.

Ray said, "A lot of schools have mentioned using me as an all-purpose player but most of them are recruiting me as a defensive back and a few have mentioned using me as a receiver."

With the season winding down and his team's success heading into the final weeks of action where does Ray Taylor stand currently?

"Like I said before...I like UConn, South Florida, Rutgers, Western Michigan, Kansas, Akron, and Virginia. I really don't have a leader right now. I'm wide open," Taylor said.

Scout.com will continue to stay in contact with the impressive cornerback from Paterson Catholic throughout the rest of his recruitment to keep you up to date as he continues to ponder his future plans.
