Brown Named Big East Player of the Week

Connecticut guard Denham Brown and Marquette guard Jerel McNeal earned the BIG EAST Conference weekly men's basketball honors on Monday. Brown was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for the second week of the season. McNeal earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Brown helped the Huskies beat two top 10 teams en route to the Maui Invitational title. He sank the winning basket with 1.1 seconds left to beat No. 8 (AP) Gonzaga, 65-63. Brown had 17 points in a 79-70 victory over No. 9 Arizona. His top offensive game was a 21-point effort in a 77-68 win over Arkansas. For the tourney, Brown averaged 15.7 points, 3.7 boards and 2.3 assists.

McNeal made the Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team while helping the Golden Eagles win the title. For the three games, he averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals. He shot 66.7 percent from the floor and connected on all nine of his free throw attempts.
