Brookfield Star Scott Lutrus Commits to UConn

Scott Lutrus was busy this season for Brookfield High in Connecticut. When he wasn't patroling the field making 63 tackles at linebacker, he was busy on the other side of the ball, rushing for over 2,000 yards and scoring almost 30 touchdowns. UConn head coach Randy Edsall was impressed enough to offer a scholarship.

Scott Lutrus managed to avoid the recruiting radar for most of the year. The 6-foot-2, 210 pound, Brookfield, Conn., standout linebacker/running back took an official visit to Connecticut and, according to his father, decided to commit to the Huskies.

"He really liked Coach (Randy) Edsall and his staff," Alan Lutrus said. "The new facilities are going to be impressive its an up-and-coming prgram. They want their football program to be on par with the basketball program and we feel it's well on the way."

Mr. Lutrus is especially excited about now having the ability to see most of his son's games.

"I would never want to tell him where to go, but it's nice knowing he is so close and we can go see him. The away games are fairly close in the Big East Conference so we'll even be able to make most of those."

Lutrus had a monstrous senior season rushing for 2,017 yards (8.7 yards per carry) and 25 touchdowns. He was also a capable receiver out of the backfield as he caught 15 catches for 249 yards, and four touchdowns.

At linebacker, he totaled 63 tackles and picked off four passes and recovered a fumble.
