NJ Athlete Ray Taylor Favors Five

Recruiting is heating up for New Jersey star Ray Taylor. He is close to setting his visit schedule, and some schools are starting to rise to the top of his list. Scout.com caught up with him for the latest.

Ray Taylor is a 6-foot, 170-pound athlete from Paterson, N.J. Taylor had a tremendous season, and he was excited to tell us about it.

"We finished the season undefeated and won the State Championship," Taylor exclaimed. "I played quarterback and defensive back, but the schools that are recruiting me are looking at me as a defensive back. I did not keep that much stats, but I had 14 touchdown passes."

"Defensively I had 65 tackles, with six interceptions. I returned two of those for touchdowns. I also had two punt returns for touchdowns."

Taylor also had the humble attitude that keeps most good players driven to improve from year to year.

"I played good, it could have been better, but I was more of a team player. I was concentrating on doing the little things to help the team win. My scholarships and everything like that have already been taken care of and we wanted to get the younger guys a look."

Taylor has had solid interest from some schools from the beginning of the year, but his final list is almost set.

"Recruiting has been going really good so far. South Florida and Maryland have been calling and trying to get me to go on an official visit. Kansas, Connecticut, and Iowa have also been calling and trying to set up visits," Taylor reports offers from all of the schools he listed and Western Michigan.

"I have not set up any specific dates for my official visits. I did un-officially visit Rutgers and Maryland. Maryland was excellent. I really liked Maryland. I went there for a day and toured the school, it was good."

"I have pretty much narrowed it down to South Florida, Kansas, Illinois, and UConn. I am also waiting to see if Virginia will offer," Taylor said.

Despite listing solid interest in all the schools that are recruiting him, Taylor had some things to say about the programs that are sticking out for him at this time.

Virginia- "I have a lot of family in Virginia, so I am really interested in them. I would like to be able to go down there and spend more time with them."

Illinois- "I have never been to Illinois or Chicago but the coaches that I talk to have been real cool and open minded. He is letting me know how things are and keeping it real with me."

South Florida- "I just want to go down there, because it is Tampa. They have been recruiting me really hard and that says a lot right there."

Connecticut- "UConn is close to home. I will probably take a visit to them. If I were to pick a school closer to Jersey it would be UConn."
