Recruiting is starting to pick up for Lawrence Wilson, and some schools are trying desperately to bring him in for an official visit before the end of January.
"Recruiting has been going pretty good. I am hearing a lot from Alabama-Birmingham, Memphis, Connecticut and Mississippi," Wilson said. "So far the only school that has extended me an offer is UConn. I have visits setup to UConn (1/13) and Memphis (1/20)."
"I am very interested in UConn, so it is great that they have offered me. I got my offer on December 23rd -- it was kind of like an early Christmas present. It felt really great to get that first offer and it took a lot of pressure off of me just knowing that they were there for me."
In addition to being the first school that has offered Wilson, there are other positives in UConn's favor.
"I have a lot of family in Connecticut. That is where my dad is originally from, so I have my grandma, uncles, aunts and my cousins all up there for support."
"Coach [Terry] Richardson is recruiting me for UConn. He is a great coach and I really get along well with him. I am just excited to get up there for my official visit. I want to see what the campus has to offer and I am just looking forward to having a good time," Wilson said.
In addition to having a high interest in UConn, Wilson also likes what Memphis has to offer, and they may be the next school to offer him when he takes his visit there.
"I know that Memphis plays a lot of linebackers and they have one of the best defensive coordinators in the country."
Wilson is keeping the last weekend in January open for a school that offers him, but for now the Huskies have the lead in his recruitment.
"I favor UConn at this point, because they are the only school that has offered me, I also like that they were the first school that offered me. I do not mind going that far away from my home, because of my family there. It would be like a home away from home. I am definitely keeping all of my options open at this time," Wilson explained.
