"I'm Locked and Loaded on UCONN"

Two-star safety prospect Matt Edwards committed to the Huskies back in July, however we haven't talked to the Holliston, Mass., product since then and wanted to see how his final season went. Edwards and his teammates had a very successful year in terms of their record, however it still wasn't enough to get them into the playoffs in a very competitive system.

Holliston High School finished the season with a 9-2 record this season, however Connecticut commitment Matt Edwards and his teammates were not able to go to the playoffs despite their outstanding record. We caught up with the 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety prospect to talk about his season, how he performed and how his official visit to Storrs went as well.

"We came in second place in our division at 9-2, but lost on Thanksgiving and missed the playoffs because of that," Edwards explained. "We play in a ten-team league and only the league champion gets to go to the playoffs, so we missed out which was obviously disappointing given our overall record."

Edwards played a lot of running back as a junior for Holliston, but spent most of his time as a wing-back as a senior.

"I played a lot of wing-back this season and had a little over 700 yards receiving with 10 touchdowns," Edwards said. "I also returned kicks and punts again this season, but they kicked the ball away from me all year, so I didn't return any for touchdowns unfortunately. On defense I played a hybrid strong safety/outside linebacker position and ended up averaging eight tackles a game and intercepting two passes. I also had six sacks this year."

As for his official visit to Connecticut…

"They try and put you with people you would have a connection with, so my host was Dave Teggart who is from Algonquin High School," Edwards stated. "He is a great kid and we just did a lot of talking about Connecticut while I was there. I also got to hang out with a lot of the other players who were all fun and said that Storrs was a great place and that the coaches were phenomenal. I thought it was great to hear they had that kind of connection with the staff."

Just to make sure, we asked Edwards how solid he was with his commitment.
